Create an account on Lookals is totally free: just go to "www.lookals.com/lookals/signup" or click on the purple Log in button on the top-right side of the Home Page. The quickest way to sign up is by logging in through Facebook. By doing so you will have part of your personal profile already fulfilled and you can get an extra validation to your account. Click on the “connect with Facebook” button. Choose a password, confirm it and click on the button “Create account”. Should you want not to use Facebook, you can sign up by using an email address and create your personal account. Click on the button “Create account” and fill in the fields with your name, email and password. Confirm it by clicking again on the button “Create account”. After having signed up, make sure your profile is complete with all the infos required in order for you to get known by the community.
On the top of every page you will see your profile picture. Click on the picture or on your name to be redirected to your profile.
You can modify your profile in two different ways:
A complete profile includes your name, surname and a picture of you. The more the community knows about you, the more it could be interested in reading about and meeting you! For the locals, it is also really important to complete the bio with a short but efficient description and add all the languages spoken. What you do not have to do is to share links to other personal web pages in order to keep everything going on Lookals. You will have the chance to get your account verified, so to build your personal online reputation, simply link your profile to the different social networks and/or connecting it with your mobile phone number.
The reviews are a way to easily tell the community what you have experienced and help them discover the perfect activity they are looking for.
You can write a review to your host or local just after having completed your adventure. Within 24 hours after the experience, you will receive an email containing a direct link to the page where you can write your review. Otherwise:
All the reviews can be shown directly on every profile page. The reviews related to an experience are shown directly on its page, just under the description.
Stars represent the vote the users gave to your experience. It’s calculated by simply making an average on the total votes received by both locals (if you are traveling) and users (if you are a local).
After having experienced your tour you are able to vote for a local or a traveler. The vote is a part of the total review process. Follow the instruction on "How do I write a review" and leave a vote 1 to 5 to your experience.
The votes for every users can be seen on every profile page, in the stars area.
The dashboard is your personal control panel. From here you can manage all the activities on your profile: manage your experiences, view your bookings and your bookmarks.
To enter your dashboard, simply click on the button you can find on the top-right of every page.
From the dashboard, you can manage your trips in the "My Trips" area and the posted experiences in the "My Listings" area . Moreover you can view your bookmarks by clicking on "My Bookmarks" .
In My Trips you can manage your bookings as a tourist. Click on to access your My Trips.
In My Listings you can manage your bookings as a local. Click on to access this section.
Click on the button from the dashboard to get access to your bookmarks. Thanks to this feature you will have easy access to all the experiences you have saved on your bookmarks area.
Use the secure messaging system on Lookals to work out details with your local or traveler before making a booking. You need to sign up with Lookals and be logged in to your Lookals account to view and send messages. Your sent and received Lookals messages can be found in your inbox. Simply click on the envelope icon at the top of any Lookals webpage when you're logged in. Click on a message to be shown your complete message thread with a particular local or traveler. When sending a message to a local for the first time, use the Send a message button to ask any questions they have.
You will be notified via mail and, on Lookals, you will see a blue number on the envelope icon at the top of any Lookals webpage when you're logged in.
Locals are local experts: professionals, tour guides, cultural associations, gastronomic tours organizers, tourist escorts and anyone who wants to promote the area in easy and professional way.
Anyone with expertise and passion, who has experiences to share with visitors, as long as the experience or activity respects the local community and local laws.
To list an experience click on “Add an Experience” at the center of the page, on the top. It opens the section BASIC INFO.
Click on the Save button.
To save your experience you have to edit the title and choose a category.
LOCATION
To display your experience in the research process you have to choose a location.
Choose from the menu the city where your experience will take place.
Write in the address of the meeting point.
If you need to give more details about the meeting points write them in the empty “note” field.
Click on the Save button.
PHOTOS
Upload beautiful pictures to show your experience.
Click on the Upload Photo button
The first picture uploaded will be the cover of your experience.
To choose another cover click on the start button at the picture’s bottom right.
For the best output choose a high-quality picture
To delete a picture click on the button at the picture’s bottom right.
CALENDAR
To edit the calendar please look at the FAQ "How do I edit my calendar?"
PREVIEW
If you click on Preview button you will see a preview of the experience you have listed.
Choose a month using the arrows in the center of the page, on the top.
Choose a day and click on it.
Write in the starting time and end time.
Write in the price for person.
Write in the minimum-maximum number of participant.
When setting the price per person remember to consider that you can’t modify the price according to the number of actual bookings. Try to find the right balance between prices per person and minimum number of people.
Are you planning to offer this experience regularly? Use the repeat function! It will help you organizing your calendar.
You can choose to repeat your experience daily, weekly or monthly.
Then you have to choose from the menu “for”, for how long you want to repeat it.
Daily > From 1 to 7 days
Weekly > From 1 to 7 weeks
Monthly > From 1 to 7 months
Don’t forget to up to date your calendar with your available date.
If you have filled in all the information and checked the preview now you have to ask for approval.
Without the approval the experience you have listed cannot be posted.
Go to the Approval section and click on the purple button Approve.
Within 24 hours you will receive a message to confirm your experience’s approval.
Once your experience has been approved you will not be able to modify the title and description.
Pictures, location and calendar can be edited at any time.
Within 24 hours you will receive a message to confirm you that your experience has been approved. When your experience has been approved you will see a tick in the approval section. The approval section is part of the experience modify process.
Before approval you can modify anything at any time. Just write your changes in the field and click on the Save button. If you have already requested the approval or your experience has already been approved to change the title and description of the experience you have to “reopen” it. Go to the Approval section and click on the Reopen button. Now you can change the title and the description. Once you have written in changes you have to ask again for approval. Pictures, location and calendar can be edited at any time.
To delete an experience go to Delete section and click on the purple button Delete.
Posting an experience on Lookals is totally free. You just have to pay service fees when a booking is completed on our platform.
When a potential traveler books one of your experiences you will receive a message on Lookals, and also an email notification.
When you receive a message for a booking you can decide to accept or decline it. You have 24 hours to officially respond to a booking request before it expires by clicking on the green button to accept or the red button to decline the request.
You have 24 hours to officially respond to a booking request. If you don’t respond on time the request expires and the traveler will look for another experience to book.
You receive the money for your booking via the secure system PayPal.
As a safety feature, Lookals collects travelers payments via PayPal when a local accepts a booking request. We then hold the payment until approximately 24 hours after the experience. Your payment is released to your PayPal account approximately 24 hours after the experience. Every booking for which you receive a payment includes thePayPal service fee. The time it takes to receive a payment after it is released depends on PayPal.
At the moment we don’t charge users Lookals’ service fees, but for every booking completed on the platform we add PayPal fees.
If you’ve already got a destination in mind, start your search at the Lookals homepage by clicking on the Lookals logo found on the upper-left corner of any Lookals web page.
If something is not clear, you need more information or you simply want to get in touch with who has posted an experience you can use Lookals message service. In the experience page. You can click on the “send a message” button at the bottom-left of the page. Or go to Local profile page clicking on “view more info” or on the name below the title. You can know more about who has posted the experience and send a message from this page. Click on “send message” button, below the profile’s picture, to send a message. You need to sign up with Lookals and be logged in to your Lookals account to view and send messages.
The photos and description will help you evaluate an experience since they are the best way for locals to showcase their offers.
Reviews show you how previous travelers have evaluated an offer and give you an idea of what to expect from an experience and local. Locals can only receive reviews from Lookals users after they complete their booking, so you can trust they are authentic.
Hearts show you how many people liked this experience.
Bookmarks are an easy and fun way to discover and save your favorite experiences. Even if you're not yet sure on your travel details, you can explore the website looking for the best experiences and save them on your profile. Click on an experience you are interested in to open the experience page and click on Add to Favorites, in the bottom-right corner, to save it in bookmarks.

To book an experience you just have to send a booking request and wait for the confirmation of your booking.
Search and find the perfect experience for you. Have you found something you like? Go to the experience page and check the availability with the calendar. Remember that the days highlighted purple are the ones available while the ones highlighted pink are the ones which unfortunately are already sold out.
Once your booking has been confirmed, you will be notified via mail and on Lookals. The message you will receive will contain all the details of your booking.
All the locals have up to 24 hours time to accept or deny a booking request. Your booking request expires anytime a local does not answer to it within 24 hours. You could then look for and book another activity.
